Marriage License
Marriage License
Persons wishing to be married in the State of Maine must apply for a marriage license.
Maine residents may apply for a marriage license in the town in which one of them
resides. Non-residents may file in any town/city in the State of Maine. Once the
intentions are filed and the marriage license is issued, the parties are free to marry
anywhere within the State of Maine. I.D. must be provided when filing for a license. Persons
previously married, must present certified documents indicating the dissolution of the former marriage.
There is no waiting period for the license to be issued. Both parties must sign the
license before it can be issued. The license is then valid for 90 days from the date of issuance.
The fee for a license is $40.00. Following the ceremony the license is to be returned to the
Greenville Town Office to be filed with the State. Certified copies of the marriage certificate
can be obtained for a fee of $15 for the first one and $6 for each additional one the same day.
